All the Schildkrot items in our collection are hand made in the company's factory in the small town of Rauenstein in the Thuringen district of Germany. It is not far from Sonnenheim and the famous "puppenstrasse"

The Schildkrot Trademark was first registered in 1896 in Berlin although the company was foundede about 20 years earlier in Mannheim and up until 1945 the specialised in celluloid dolls.
After the 2nd war production continued into the 1960's, concentrating on lower cost items. In 1983 the current owners bought the remains of the Schilkrot factory together with the famous trademark. They have recreated the classic doll collection - now made in hard vinyl - developed an exclusive designer range of dolls and introduced some wonderful play dolls. They have also recreated a number of bears and other animals.
